Aren’t “Cows” Farm Animals, You Ask…

Computers on Wheels (COWs) are mobile carts that contain 24 laptops, a printer and accessories for wireless connectivity to the district’s network. The COWs can be wheeled into any classroom and instantly be available for student use.

Education research has shown that the use of laptops helps improve students writing and reading skills, enables collaboration, and becomes a means for addressing low achievement and equal access to technology. Additional studies show that technology can dramatically improve learning and student achievement, particularly when it is integrated into curriculum to achieve clear and measurable educational objectives.

“COWs in the classroom will make our children more competitive in a technology-dominated world.”

                          - Mr. Peter Miller, Superintendent of Schools.

Ms. Debbie Wilkins, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, notes, “The Computer on Wheels will allow every child in a class to have controlled Internet access to research topics as the curriculum need arises”

….And Why Does The School District Need Them?

From our 7th Grade Students  Bernardsville Middle School

I think that it was a great investment...we feel a lot like college students having laptops sitting in front of us with the Internet and all the special programs like PowerPoint…”

“One thing I really love about the COWs is that you feel as if you are no longer restricted by the school’s boundaries….”

“I was more intrigued with doing my projects when I heard about COWs”

“I felt overjoyed to use such a cool piece of technology.”

“Using the COWs to write our essays made it fun and exciting. It also helped us to be creative. We were writing a piece about Medieval Times. Since we had laptops, we were able to turn the classroom into a medieval monastery to set the mood of the writing”…

“I am thankful for you approving the grants that make the school a more productive and modern place to learn”
